Dambai (O/R), Sept. 1, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Government, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the relevant security agencies to provide answers on the reported disappearance of Fussein Mohammed., a resident of Dambai.
Fussein for nearly 10 months has allegedly gone missing.
The party said the circumstances surrounding Mr Mohammed’s disappearance raised serious concerns about the safety and security of residents and the progress of investigations into the case.
Speaking at a press engagement in Dambai, led by Mr Justin Frimpong Koduah, National Secretary of the NPP, Party said his presence in the Oti Region demonstrated the party’s commitment to drawing national attention to issues affecting the safety, security, rights and welfare of Ghanaians.
The NPP said Mr Mohammed was reportedly abducted at about 2100 hours on October 25, 2025, while returning home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing from their shop.
According to the party, the incident reportedly occurred about 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister, a situation it said made the circumstances surrounding the case particularly concerning.
It said nearly 10 months after the alleged incident, fundamental questions about Mr Mohammed’s whereabouts, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the progress of investigations remained unanswered.
The NPP therefore called on the security agencies to intensify efforts to establish Mr Mohammed’s whereabouts, identify persons responsible for the alleged abduction and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.
The NPP said the matter had implications beyond Mr Mohammed’s family, as the prolonged absence of clear answers could undermine public confidence in the security architecture of Dambai and the wider Oti Region.
It said information available to the Party indicated that the incident occurred along a principal route in Dambai and that the ferry serving the area was reportedly not operational at the time.
The party further said the alternative route towards Nkwanta, reportedly covering about eight kilometres, had three security checkpoints operating that night.
“If these accounts are accurate, legitimate questions arise as to how the alleged perpetrators could have abducted a citizen, transported him through or out of the area and apparently escaped detection,” the party said.
The NPP consequently demanded clarification from the relevant authorities on the current status of the investigation and the specific steps taken since October 25, 2025, to establish Mr Mohammed’s whereabouts.
It also wanted to know whether information, leads and accounts reportedly provided by residents and potential witnesses had been followed up by investigators.
On surveillance, the Party asked whether available Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the vicinity of the incident and along relevant routes had been obtained, preserved and subjected to forensic analysis.
It said that, if the cameras were operational at the time, the footage could assist investigators in identifying vehicles or persons who might have been connected to the incident and reconstructing movements in the area.
The NPP also asked whether records from security checkpoints operating along the relevant routes had been examined and whether officers on duty on the night of the incident had been interviewed.
It further called on REGSEC to clarify the role it had played in coordinating the investigation and provide assurances to Mr Mohammed’s family and the people of Dambai that all available investigative mechanisms had been deployed.
The Party stressed that every Ghanaian was entitled to equal protection under the law, irrespective of political affiliation, social status or occupation.
It questioned whether the response would have been different if a person who disappeared under similar circumstances had been a senior government official, a Metropolitan, Municipal or District Chief Executive, a Regional Minister or another politically exposed person.
“Every Ghanaian life has equal value,” the Party said, stressing that the protection of life, liberty and personal security should not be regarded as a privilege reserved for persons occupying positions of political authority.
The NPP said the matter should not be reduced to partisan politics, arguing that the safety and security of citizens transcend political affiliations, ethnicity, religion, geography and social status.
It therefore appealed to civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, the media, human rights organisations and other stakeholders to support calls for a thorough, professional and transparent investigation into Mr Mohammed’s disappearance.
The Party said Mr Mohammed’s family deserved answers and that residents of Dambai and the wider Oti Region also deserved reassurance about their safety and confidence in the security system.
It urged the relevant authorities to treat the matter with urgency and provide credible updates to the family and the public on the progress of investigations.
I have also kept allegations such as the location of the incident, the non-operational ferry, CCTV availability and the checkpoints explicitly attributed to the NPP, rather than presenting them as independently established facts.
