The Ghana Police Service has arrested six suspects and recovered GHC300,000 following a robbery attack on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway in the Bono East Region.

According to the Bono East Regional Police Command, officers on duty at the Portor Police Barrier received intelligence on the night of July 19, 2026, that a robbery was underway a short distance from the checkpoint.

Police said a team immediately responded to the scene, where some of the suspects fled into a nearby bush. One suspect, identified as Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy, was arrested at the scene. During interrogation, he allegedly identified Samad Issahaka, 24, the driver of a Kia Rhino truck, as an accomplice, leading to his arrest.

Investigations later revealed that the owner of the Kia Rhino, Yahaya Seidu, 35, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle. Police allege that the driver, aware his employer was carrying a large sum of money, conspired with five others to stage the robbery.

The suspects, armed with what Police described as a toy pistol, allegedly trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region before intercepting it on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway and robbing the occupants of GHC300,000 in cash.

Police said Counter Terrorism personnel, supported by a local patrol team, pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested four additional suspects: Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.

A search of the suspects led to the recovery of the entire GHC300,000, Police said.

The suspects have since been detained and are assisting with investigations.

The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the “alertness and professionalism” of officers at the Portor Police Barrier and the Counter Terrorism team for their role in the arrests, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property in the region.
