Awal Mohammed, Fameye

Rapper, Awal, has extended an olive branch to fellow musicians Fameye and Medikal, apologising for past misunderstandings and calling for greater unity within the country’s music industry.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, Awal said he has reflected on some of the conflicts that strained his relationships with colleagues and believes it is time to move forward.

Recalling his fallout with Fameye, Awal said the two were once close friends before a business disagreement affected their bond.

“I had issues with Fameye. I don’t even know how it ended, but there was a misunderstanding between us. I don’t know how he felt. Maybe he felt really bad. I would like to tell him that if I’ve stepped on his toes, I’m sorry,” he said.

He added that he misses the friendship they once shared.

“We were friends and there was business involved, but sometimes I feel bad that we don’t have that kind of vibe anymore,” Awal stated.

The rapper also addressed his relationship with Medikal, explaining that their differences arose from the competitive nature of hip-hop, where lyrical jabs are often exchanged between artistes.

“As for Medikal, I recorded a song, ‘Take It or Leave It.’ In the hip-hop fraternity, it’s part of the culture to take shots at someone. Medikal also used to like me and support me, but through rap culture, one way or the other, I stepped on his toes,” he explained.

Awal concluded by apologising to anyone in the creative arts industry who may have been hurt by his actions or words, stressing the need for collaboration to elevate Ghanaian music.

“To all my colleagues in the industry, if I’ve stepped on your toes in one way or another, I want to say please find a place in your heart to forgive me. Let’s do this together because we are doing this for the culture. Let’s put Ghana on the map,” he added.
