Dekpor (V/R), July 15, GNA – Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, has announced that an investor has been secured to partner with the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) to revive the long-abandoned Fish Ponds at Dekpor, a development expected to generate employment and stimulate economic growth in the constituency.
The MP said the breakthrough followed months of engagements and presentations highlighting the enormous economic potential of the fish ponds, which have remained non-operational for several years despite their strategic importance to aquaculture development in the area.
According to Mr Agbana, renovation works commenced about six weeks ago and have progressed steadily, with major rehabilitation of the facility already underway.
He expressed optimism that operations would begin in the coming weeks, paving the way for the restoration of commercial fish farming activities at the site.
Mr Agbana said the revived project was expected to create more than 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly for the youth and women, while opening up new avenues for income generation and entrepreneurship.
He noted that beyond employment creation, the project would stimulate local economic activity through increased demand for goods and services, transportation, fish processing, marketing and other value-chain businesses within the constituency.
“The revival of the Dekpor Fish Ponds represents another important step in our commitment to unlocking the economic potential of Ketu North through strategic partnerships and private sector investment,” he said.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to attracting more investment into agriculture, fisheries and agro-processing to create sustainable jobs, improve livelihoods and promote inclusive economic development across the constituency.
He also expressed appreciation to the investor and GIDA for their collaboration and confidence in the project, saying the partnership would help transform the abandoned facility into a productive enterprise that would benefit the people of Ketu North for generations to come.
