The Kenya Meteorological Services Authority (KMSA) has warned Kenyans to brace for moderate to heavy rains for the next five days, from Saturday, May 30, to Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
In its weekend weather advisory, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected in Central Kenya, Western, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, and North-eastern Kenya.
According to the weather department, at least 20 counties in Western, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley experienced showers and thunderstorms Friday night, May 29.
These counties include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

The aforementioned counties are expected to receive heavy rainfall, which will mostly begin in the afternoon after cloudy and light showers in the morning, with the rains to be accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Central Kenya, light rains will occur in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
A similar weather pattern has been projected in the South Eastern Lowland counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
Coastal and North Eastern residents were also urged to brace for light rains with counties in these regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.
While most parts of the country will receive rain, sunny and dry conditions have been forecasted in the North-western counties of Turkana and Samburu.
Temperature Advisory
Besides rainfall projections, the meteorological department also warned of cold weather, particularly in Central Kenya, where night temperatures would fall to 5°C.
Counties expected to experience very cold nights for the next five days include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
At the same time, daytime temperatures in some parts of the country have been projected to soar up to 37°C, particularly in North-western Kenya and the Coast region.
