Kadjebi (O/R), May 7, GNA – Dr Sam Issaka Suraj, the Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE), has commended the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for its flagship programmes that were helping in promoting patriotism, constitutional awareness and responsible citizenship among the youth.
He said initiatives such as the Citizenship Week Celebration, Constitution Game Board and Project Citizen had, over the years, contributed significantly to shaping the civic consciousness of young people and strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots.
Dr Suraj gave the commendation when staff of the Kadjebi District Directorate of the NCCE paid a courtesy call on him at his office as part of efforts to deepen institutional collaboration and to present the Commission’s programme outline for the second quarter of 2026.
The visit, which formed part of a relationship-building engagement, also afforded officials of the Commission the opportunity to brief the DCE on some operational challenges confronting the Directorate, particularly inadequate logistics.
Dr Suraj said civic education remained a critical tool for national development and urged the Commission to sustain its outreach programmes in schools and communities.
He noted that inculcating discipline, patriotism, and democratic values in the younger generation was essential for national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
The DCE, who previously served as Assemblyman for the Mempeasem Electoral Area, recalled his participation as a Resource Person during a previous Citizenship Week Celebration held with pupils of Mempeasem E.P. Junior High School.
He said the experience exposed him to the positive impact of civic education on school children and encouraged facilitators and opinion leaders to serve as role models to inspire the youth.
“The young ones look up to adults in society; therefore, those entrusted with mentoring them must exhibit good moral standards and leadership qualities worthy of emulation,” he said.
Dr Suraj assured the Commission of the Assembly’s readiness to support its activities, within the limits of available resources, to enable it to achieve its mandate effectively.
Mr Innocent Komla Gavua, the Kadjebi District Coordinating Director, who was present at the meeting, shared similar sentiments and underscored the importance of civic education in promoting good governance, accountability and active citizen participation.
He called for stronger collaboration between the Assembly and the NCCE to intensify public education on citizens’ rights and responsibilities.
Ms Delight Ama Serwaa Akey, the Principal Civic Education Officer at the Kadjebi District Office of the NCCE, expressed appreciation to the DCE and the Coordinating Director for the warm reception.
She said despite the Directorate’s commitment to executing its programmes effectively, inadequate logistics remained a major challenge affecting outreach activities, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
Ms Akey appealed to the District Assembly and other stakeholders to support the Directorate with logistics, particularly a motorbike, to facilitate effective monitoring and implementation of programmes across the district.
She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility, constitutional democracy, and peaceful coexistence among residents in the district.
