The Minority in Parliament has accused the government of turning the ongoing power crisis into a public relations exercise, rather than focusing on long-term solutions to stabilise electricity supply across the country.
The criticism comes amid continued erratic power supply nationwide, following a fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company’s (GRIDCO) Akosombo substation, which has intensified public concern over the stability of the national grid.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Select Committee on Energy, Collins Adomako Mensah, said recent government actions amount to managing perception rather than addressing the root causes of the crisis.
He argued that measures such as suspensions, management reshuffles, and press briefings do not constitute a coherent energy policy.
“Ghana cannot afford a government that manages crisis through spectacle. Suspending a CEO, reshuffling a regional management team and calling a press briefing are not an energy policy. They are a choreography of an administration desperate to be seen acting while refusing to confront the true altar of this catastrophe, itself,” he stated.
According to him, the current power situation cannot be blamed on isolated individuals, but reflects deeper structural and policy failures within the energy sector.
“The dumsor Ghanaians are experiencing today is not the product of any single CEO. It is the product of an NDC government that was handed a working recovery plan by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia but chose instead to govern by excuses, to manage by misdirection and to treat a national emergency as a public relations problem to be explained away rather than an energy crisis to be urgently solved,” he added.
The Minority insists that without a clear and transparent energy recovery strategy, Ghana risks prolonging the current instability in power supply, with wider implications for households, businesses, and industry.
