President John Dramani Mahama has began a five-day working visit to the Republic of Korea.
The President touched down at the Air Force Base in Seoul, South Korea, at exactly 8:00 p.m. Korea Time, yesterday.
He was received by the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Park Kyongsig; the Director-General, Africa and Middle East Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, Chung Kwangyong, and Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea, Kojo Choi, together with other officials from the Ghana Embassy in Seoul.
Purpose
The visit is aimed at deepening the long-standing bilateral relations between Ghana and the Republic of Korea, including exploring new opportunities for trade, investment and technological cooperation.
Ghana and South Korea have enjoyed decades of cordial diplomatic relations built on cooperation in trade, education, technology, infrastructure development and cultural exchange.
The visit is, therefore, expected to further strengthen the ties and expand partnerships in key sectors such as industry, shipping, innovation and human capital development.
Bilateral meetings
During the visit, President Mahama will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-Myung.
He will also meet with the Speaker of the Korean National Assembly, Woo Won-shik.
As part of his engagements, President Mahama will participate in a ship-naming ceremony at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, and deliver a speech at a conferment ceremony at Yonsei University.
The President will also grant an interview to Yonhap News Agency.
Other activities
Other activities on the President’s schedule include an evening meeting with Ghanaians studying and working in South Korea, as well as dinner meetings with chief executives and business leaders to discuss investment opportunities in Ghana.
President Mahama is accompanied by a delegation which included the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama; an Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Stan Xoese Dogbe.
