The bodies of four of the nine miners who lost their lives in the Tontokrom pit disaster in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region have been released to their families for burial.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ahafo Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Boakye, told Citi News that the remaining five bodies are still at the St. Elizabeth Hospital mortuary in Hwidiem.
He added that no additional bodies have been retrieved beyond the nine recovered on the day of the incident.
“There were four Muslims among them, so their bodies were released after the autopsy. They are Muslims, and because they don’t keep long in burying their dead, they were released to their families.
“It is now left with five bodies that are still in the mortuary pending autopsy.”
