Sunyani, (Bono), Feb. 27, GNA – Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has urged the chiefs and people of the Bono Region to allow the development of the region to override their personal interest.
He said with a formidable front and collective approach, the people could successfully push forward and advance the region’s holistic development.
Mr Ibrahim, also the Member of Parliament for the Banda constituency in the region gave the advice when he paid courtesy on Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area in Sunyani as part of his working visit to the region.
Together with a delegation from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the nation’s development partners, the sector minister was in the region to assess the progress of the District Assemblies Common Fund-Responsiveness Factor Grant (DACF-RFG) Programme.
Mr Ibrahim emphasized that peace and unity remained prerequisite for development and urged the urge to rally behind the traditional authorities in advancing the development of their respective communities.
He said the holistic development of Sunyani, the Bono regional capital ought to be prioritized and called on the Sunyani people to bury their differences, forge ahead in unity and support rally behind the paramount chief for sustained peace, social cohesion and for accelerated development.
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II commended the Minister for championing development of the region and intervening for the amicable resolution of a traditional dispute in the area.
He also commended President John Dramani Mahama’s government for working hard to bring the development of Sunyani to the next level, however called on the government to do more to improve the deplorable conditions of roads in the Sunyani Township and the region by extension.
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II called on the government to ensure that abandoned and on-going projects in the area were completed for the betterment of the people.
