Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Ltd launches low-smoke anti-counterfeit cable

Nexans Kabelmetal, in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Ghana, Ghana Standards Authority, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Electrical Contractors’ Association, has launched a Low-Smoke Anti-Counterfeit cable to improve safety and stability in Ghana’s electrical industry.

Speaking at the launch in Accra on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Chief Executive Officer of Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Ltd, Alexander Quarcoopome, described the product as a groundbreaking innovation designed to save lives.

“This cable has special safety features that reduce risks during fire outbreaks and protect users,” he said.

Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority, Kojo Eshun, described the initiative as “a decision that saves lives,” and stressed the importance of quality and safety in electrical installations.

He explained that the cables meet international standards, including IEC 61034-2 for smoke emission and IEC 60332-1-2 for flame retardancy, helping to reduce toxic fumes, control fire spread, and improve visibility during emergencies.

Compliance with these standards ensures reduced flame propagation, lower toxic gas emissions, and controlled smoke density during combustion or fire outbreaks. In emergency situations, visibility saves lives. Reduced toxicity saves lives. Controlled flame spread saves lives. This is why the theme chosen today is so appropriate. The decision to use quality cables is indeed a decision that saves lives.

The new product is expected to enhance public safety, reduce fire incidents, and promote responsible practices in Ghana’s electrical sector.
