Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro and Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey
The Savelugu Constituency leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has condemned what it describes as anti-party conduct by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.
The Constituency executives accused her of meddling in the politics of the area and openly endorsing Hajia Fatahiya Abdul-Aziz, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Savelugu, during the launch of a project in the constituency.
At a press briefing at Savelugu, the Constituency Communications Officer, Nyaba Abass, said the deputy minister attended the event organised by the NPP MP without engaging the NDC constituency structures.
He alleged that in a video circulating on social media, Affo-Toffey was heard saying the NPP MP “deserves a second chance” based on her performance, a comment the Constituency described as a public endorsement that could undermine the NDC’s electoral prospects in 2028.
Abass further claimed that the Deputy Minister donated GH¢100,000 to support a foundation associated with the NPP MP and invited her to seek further assistance when necessary.
He said the Constituency executives were also concerned about remarks attributed to the Deputy Minister indicating that she did not believe in “party colours” and another comment in which she reportedly compared her performance in office to that of the Savelugu MP.
He said, “As a Member of Parliament elected on the ticket of the NDC and serving as a Deputy Minister under the government of President John Dramani Mahama, she has a responsibility to uphold and protect the interests of the party at all times.”
The Constituency leadership said the actions of the Deputy Minister had caused disaffection among party members and called on the national leadership of the NDC to intervene.
They also referenced past grievances with the NPP MP, alleging that during the previous administration, the NDC parliamentary candidate in 2024 was denied access to fertiliser support extended to MPs, refused access to certain public venues for party activities, and faced challenges over the attribution of a road contract.
The Constituency executives in the statement, demanded that Madam Affo-Toffey visit Savelugu to apologise to party members, make a donation to the Constituency party comparable to the amount she allegedly gave in support of the NPP MP’s foundation, and that the national leadership of the NDC subject her conduct to the party’s disciplinary processes.
They appealed to the party’s national executives to take steps to prevent what they described as further interference in the internal political affairs of the Savelugu Constituency.
