President John Dramani Mahama will speak to Ghanaians on national issues
President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to deliver the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, February 27, in Parliament.
The address serves as a constitutional requirement under Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the president to attend Parliament at the beginning of each session to deliver a message on the state of the nation.
Six takeaways from President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address
The president is expected to provide a comprehensive overview of the country’s current state, evaluating progress made so far and outlining the government’s key priorities and major policy directions for the year ahead.
Critical sectors, including the economy, health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure, are also expected to feature in reflections on Ghana’s international relations and commitments.
Meanwhile, ahead of the SONA, the Parliament of Ghana has outlined accreditation and operational guidelines for journalists.
In a notice issued to the media dated Friday, February 20, 2026, Parliament, in order to regulate coverage of the event, has directed that all journalists who are not members of the Parliamentary Press Corps must submit applications for accreditation to the Director of the Media Relations Department no later than Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
The statement stressed that failure to obtain accreditation will result in denial of access to the event.
Parliament further instructed that accredited journalists must display their identification conspicuously throughout the programme and remain within designated areas assigned to them.
The Speaker’s Lobby has been declared out of bounds for photography, interviews, and other media engagements.
“Accordingly, journalists should ensure that their accreditation is conspicuously displayed throughout the event. Journalists/Reporters should restrict themselves to the designated areas as indicated on their respective accreditation. The Rt. Hon. Speaker’s lobby is Out of Bounds for photography, interviews and any other related media engagements,” the statement directed.
Additionally, to reduce congestion, Parliament announced that a clean broadcast feed will be provided for rebroadcast, encouraging media houses to rely on it unless physical presence at the public gallery is necessary.
