The Ghana Chamber of Mines has donated GHS1,680,000 to the Ghana Air Force (GAF), completing its pledged financial support towards the refurbishment of aircraft for national assignments.

The donation represents the final tranche of a US$300,000 commitment made by the Chamber to support the operational readiness of the Ghana Air Force.

The funds are intended to assist in refurbishing aircraft used for critical national duties, including security
operations, surveillance, and emergency response.

A delegation from the Ghana Air Force visited the Chamber’s Secretariat to formally receive the final donation, marking the completion of the commitment first announced in 2024.

Speaking during the presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey said the donation reflects the mining industry’s appreciation of the vital role played by the Ghana Air Force in safeguarding the nation.

“The development of this country is paramount to the Chamber. And the Ghana Air Force plays a critical role in ensuring national security and supporting emergency and strategic operations across the country. A stable and secure nation is essential for sustainable development, including the growth of the mining industry. This support is our modest contribution to strengthening that capacity,” the CEO said.

Ing. Ashigbey recalled that the Chamber made the first US$150,000 donation in 2024 at the Air Force Base in Accra, emphasizing that the Chamber was committed to honouring its pledge in full.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ghana Air Force, Air Commodore Elvis King Arneson, Base Commander of Air Force Base (AFB) Accra, expressed appreciation to the Chamber for its continued support.

“This timely support from the Ghana Chamber of Mines will significantly enhance our aircraft refurbishment efforts and improve our readiness for national assignments. We are grateful for the Chamber’s partnership and its recognition of the Air Force’s role in national development and security,” Air Commodore Arneson said.

He added that collaborations between state institutions and the private sector are crucial to building resilient national security capabilities.

The engagement highlighted the strong institutional relationship between the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Ghana Air Force. It reaffirmed the importance of public– private sector cooperation in advancing Ghana’s national interest.
