Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, says Ghana’s construction industry is closing 2025 on a far more stable cost trajectory, as new data point to easing inflationary pressures on building inputs.
Speaking on the latest Prime Building Cost Index, Dr Iddrisu revealed that year-on-year inflation in the building sector slowed to 4.4% in December 2025, indicating a continued moderation in price increases compared to the same period last year.
He explained that the figures show a rare monthly decline in costs, with building input prices falling by 0.2% between November and December 2025 — a development he described as a positive signal for contractors and developers.
According to the Government Statistician, the data suggest that price volatility in the construction space has largely subsided, marking a shift from the intense cost pressures experienced in previous years.
He noted that the sector is now operating in a more predictable and stable inflation environment.
The December figure represents the eighth straight drop in annual building inflation, highlighting a sustained downward trend. Official data from the Ghana Statistical Service further show that the latest rate is 1.5 percentage points lower than the 5.9% recorded in November 2025, and a sharp fall from the 22.65% seen in December 2024.
Dr Iddrisu described the development as a major turnaround for the industry, stressing that the steep price increases that once burdened the sector have eased considerably.
