Winneba clash: Suspects remanded, No deaths recorded

Multiple suspects arrested in connection with a violent clash between two youth groups at Sankor in Winneba have been arraigned and remanded into prison custody.

The clash occurred on Sunday after an earlier altercation between the two groups was reported to police. The confrontation later escalated, with members of both factions reportedly wielding weapons and firing gunshots during the violence.

Initial reports suggested that the disturbance resulted in a fatality. However, speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, January 27, the Winneba Divisional Commander, ACP Ibrahim Opoku, dismissed those claims.

According to him, no deaths were recorded, although two people sustained life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba and the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital under police protection.

“We have made some arrests, and the suspects have been remanded into prison custody. There has been no death, as reported. Some persons were wounded, and they are responding to treatment at various hospitals,” ACP Opoku said.

Police say investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other suspects linked to the incident.
