Kadjebi (O/R), Jan 27, GNA – The episcopal ordination of Reverend Monsignor Simon Kofi Appiah, the bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Jasikan, has been slated for Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the St. Peter Claver Cathedral in Jasikan, in the Oti Region.

The announcement was contained in a formal notification dated January 22, 2026, issued from the Office of the Vicar General, Rev. Monsignor Joseph Kofi Nsiah, on behalf of the outgoing bishop, Most Rev. Gabriel Akwasi Ababio Mante, the clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the diocese.

Mr. Johnson Tsyawo, Chairman of the Ordination Planning Committee (OPC), confirmed the date and venue in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said the detailed programme of activities for the ordination week, from Monday, April 6 to Sunday, April 12, 2026, would be communicated to the public in due course.

Mr Tsyawo told GNA that official paraphernalia, including cloth, T-shirts, scarves and other items bearing the approved portrait and Coat of Arms of the Bishop-elect, would be produced and sold to the public strictly under the auspices of the Ordination Planning Committee.

“The public is therefore advised to refrain from the production, sale and purchase of unapproved items,” he cautioned.

He told GNA that dignitaries such as the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama; the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Julien Kabore; representatives from Rome; all Catholic Bishops in Ghana; the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno; and the Controller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, among others, are expected to attend the ordination.

Rev. Monsignor Simon Kofi Appiah, born on July 1, 1964, is a Ghanaian Catholic priest, academic and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Religion and Human Values of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

He was appointed bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Jasikan in December 2025.

On December 23, 2025, Pope Leo XIV appointed him as the second Bishop of the Diocese, succeeding Bishop Gabriel Akwasi Ababio Mante, the first Bishop of Jasikan.

Rev. Monsignor Appiah hails from Teteman, a farming community in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region of Ghana.

His appointment has been widely noted for his extensive academic credentials and rich pastoral experience.

The Catholic Diocese of Jasikan in Ghana was erected on December 19, 1994, by Pope John Paul II.

It was created by carving it out of the then Diocese of Keta-Ho.

The diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Accra, with its seat located in Jasikan in the Oti Region.
