The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for a presidential candidate who appeals to the wider Ghanaian electorate.
The party is scheduled to hold its flagbearer primaries on Saturday, January 31, with more than 200,000 delegates expected to vote at 333 polling centres across the country.
Five aspirants; Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, are contesting for the party’s top slot.
Responding to questions from constituents in a social media post, Mr Boamah said he has not endorsed any of the candidates.
He said his message to delegates, particularly those in Okaikwei Central, is to vote for a candidate with broad national appeal who can win the general election.
“I have not endorsed any candidate,” he said. “What I tell my constituents is that we should always vote for somebody the country will accept, not just one the NPP alone accepts, so we can get the support needed to win the general elections.”
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to promote peace and unity ahead of the 2028 general elections, the party has made all aspirants sign a peace pact, committing themselves to the growth and cohesion of the NPP.
