Dominic Nwuzor, former manager of the late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has called on the Enugu State government to provide scholarships for the actor’s children.

Naija News reports that Nwuzor, who led the career of the comic actor for over twenty years before his death in March 2024, spoke on the appeal in Abuja.

He urged the state government to support the children of the Nkanu West-born actor by offering educational opportunities that could help them become self-reliant in the absence of their father.

The former manager noted that Governor Peter Mbah has a reputation for caring about education and the welfare of vulnerable citizens.

He expressed hope that the governor would extend assistance to Mr Ibu’s family, acknowledging the actor’s contribution to the state’s reputation across Africa and beyond.

“We have appealed for scholarship opportunities for the children, and will continue to do, so that something can be done.

“His Excellency, Gov. Peter Mbah, is a leader with a large heart and does not take lightly the education of the people, especially the vulnerable ones.

“We hope he will consider offering scholarships to the offspring of the man, who used his talent to make the state proud across Africa and beyond,” he said.

Mr Ibu is remembered as one of Nigeria’s most loved comic actors, admired for his unique timing, facial expressions, and ability to play clumsy or foolish characters.

His roles, particularly in movies bearing his stage name, have made him a household name across the continent and earned him the nickname, “The Man Who Made Africa Laugh.”
