TMA cuts sod for new transport terminal

By Comfort Sena Fetrie-Akagbor

Tema, Jan. 10, GNA-The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has cut the sod for the construction of a new transport terminal at El-Paso aimed at improving transport system performance and restoring order within the metropolis.

The transport terminal is expected to serve as a major entry and exit point, facilitating the movement of passengers and goods while supporting regional economic activities through improved access to markets, services, and people.

Mr Frank Asante, the Public Relations Officer of the TMA, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), explaining that the project formed part of a broader initiative spearheaded by Ms Ebi Bright, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).

Mr Asante said the initiative, dubbed: “Tema Facelift Campaign,” sought to restore order, enhance public safety, and reposition Tema as Ghana’s leading industrial and port city.

According to him, transport terminals played a critical role as connectivity hubs, enabling seamless transfers between different modes of transport and serving as vital links in complex supply chains.

He noted that the project would drive economic activity, create employment opportunities, and require significant infrastructure investment to ensure efficient operations, storage, and traffic management.

He expressed concern over the unregulated spread of kiosks and containers across streets, walkways, drains, and open spaces over the years, describing the situation as a major challenge to urban planning and safety.

He appealed to residents of Tema to fully support the MCE’s initiatives, stressing that collective cooperation was essential to achieving sustainable urban development and elevating the metropolis to the highest standards.
