The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a 34-year-old Nigerian national, Beauty Alakwe, for causing harm to a minor at Duase near Kenyasi in the Kenyasi District.<\/p>\n
The conviction follows an incident reported on November 22, 2025, when a resident of Duase, with support from the area\u2019s Assembly Member, lodged a complaint with the police over an alleged assault on a nine-year-old girl. Police subsequently arrested the suspect, who is the child\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
Investigations, according to a police statement, were conducted by the Kenyase District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) under the Tafo-Pankrono Division, after which the accused was arraigned before the Circuit Court in Tafo, Kumasi.<\/p>\n
On Friday, December 23, 2025, the court, presided over by Festus Fovi Nukunu, found the accused guilty of causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nShe was sentenced to 15 months\u2019 imprisonment with hard labour and fined GH\u00a26,000, in default of which she was to serve an additional 15 months in prison.<\/p>\n
The convict failed to pay the fine and has since been conveyed to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin her sentence.<\/p>\n
The court further directed the Department of Social Welfare at Mamponteng to work with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection to ensure the welfare and reunification of the victim and the convict\u2019s nine-year-old son with their family in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended members of the public for their cooperation in the investigation but cautioned against mob justice, reaffirming its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons.<\/p>\n
