Following the appreciation of the local currency against major trading currencies, especially the US dollar in recent times, many, including the trading community, have lauded President John Dramani Mahama for the Ghana cedi’s gains.<\/p>\n In a video gone viral on social media, a woman, who appears to be a food vendor, heaped praises on President Mahama for the drop in prices of some food items, including cooking oil, bags of rice, and tubers of yam.<\/p>\n In the video sighted by GhanaWeb, the vendor reported that the cost of a gallon of cooking oil, once pegged at GH\u00a21,000, has now dropped to GH\u00a2680. This signifies a GH\u00a2320 reduction in price.<\/p>\n Similarly, a bag of rice that previously sold for GH\u00a2500 now goes for GH\u00a2380.<\/p>\n \u201cMahama is my saviour. Today, when I went to the market, this gallon of oil that I buy for GH\u00a21,000 was sold to me for GH\u00a2680. This tuber of yam was also bought at GH\u00a240 despite the shortage of yam on the market… God bless you Mahama,” the woman was heard saying while beaming with smiles. <\/p>\n Meanwhile, social media users have expressed mixed reactions to her claim.
