The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has called on Ghanaians to support President John Dramani Mahama in winning the galamsey fight.<\/p>\n
According to Dr. Amoah, the fight against illegal mining must not be a sole prerogative of the government but a concerted effort to tackle the menace, which continues to devastate the environment.<\/p>\n
Speaking at Leadership Conclave on the theme, \u201cBuilding The Ghana We Want: The Role of Students at Christian Service University in Kumasi, on Thursday, May 1, he urged the youth, especially students, to actively get involved in nation-building.<\/p>\n
\u201cNobody will build your country for you. His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, or former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, cannot build this country without your contribution, involvement, and cooperation. Don\u2019t deceive yourselves, leadership is not just about the President, as young as you are, you should be ready to contribute your quota to building this country.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cBefore former President Akufo-Addo started the fight against illegal mining, he came to meet it same way as the current President. I don\u2019t think President Mahama or former President Akufo-Addo will be happy to see people destroying our water bodies.<\/p>\n
\u201cNana Addo resourced the military to fight illegal mining, as to whether they did the job right or not, or whether the people involved yielded to the call or not. Or do you think the former President or the country President can go to the River Pra or Offin at night to fight illegal mining, let\u2019s be real.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the cancellation of the Electronic Levy by the government, he described the move as a good one, but lamented the several taxes introduced.<\/p>\n
\u201cPay taxes, you will say no, but you want the government to construct all the roads,\u201d he further added.<\/p>\n
He further highlighted the crucial role young people and students play in building a nation, emphasising the need for a sustainable economy, a good health system, and others.<\/p>\n
The Nhyiaeso MP further stressed that individual contribution and performance are key to a nation\u2019s development, stating some variables that determine performance, such as ability, technical skill and dexterity.<\/p>\n
He encouraged students and young people to develop these skills to make a meaningful impact on the country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n
Dr. Amoah made a passionate appeal, urging students to take ownership of their role in nation-building, warning that a nation that neglects the contribution of its youth has no future.<\/p>\n
He also added that the future of Ghana and other nations depends on the active participation and contribution of the youth.<\/p>\n
The Student Representative Council (SRC) President of Christian Service University, Richard Owusu, also called on the youth to embrace opportunities to equip themselves to take leadership roles in the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe in the private tertiary are shy to take the available opportunities that will equip us to be leaders in the future. We fear that doing other curricular activities will affect our academic performance,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
