The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not adopt a retaliatory approach or engage in vindictive politics if the party returns to power.<\/p>\n According to him, such approaches have neither benefited nor contributed to the development of the country under past governments, and, therefore, the NPP is committed to charting a more constructive and forward-looking path.<\/p>\n He made this known during an interview with Joy FM, in response to a question about whether a future NPP government would dismiss all seven Supreme Court justices nominated by President Mahama, an assertion previously made by party communicator, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.<\/p>\n \u201cThe call is an end to retaliatory politics, and I’m sure that when situations occur, people out of pain speak and express views. But I sit here as a leader of the caucus to say that the retaliatory approach is not the way to go for our nation. He has expressed a view, but I’m quite sure that this wouldn’t be the approach for us as a nation because it would mean a vicious cycle without an end. Where would it lead us to?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Afenyo-Markin highlighted some of the recurring mistakes made by the political class, which he believes have not served the country well. <\/p>\n He noted that new governments often operate under the perception that targeting political opponents will help them maintain power for longer periods. <\/p>\n However, he argued that such actions have neither proven effective in extending a government’s tenure nor yielded meaningful results, adding that this approach ultimately undermines nation-building efforts.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026 One unfortunate thing about us as a political class is sometimes when we get the power, the inclination is that if you bring down your opponent, that would make you stay in power for long. It’s one unfortunate mistake.
