The Omanhene of the Mampong Traditional Council, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, has questioned the actions of some National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in Mampong who have recently embarked on an open anti-Ashanti campaign.<\/p>\n Addressing some constituency leaders of the party at his palace on Sunday, April 13, 2025, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II questioned whether the youth protesting against the possible nomination of an Ashanti for the Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position were intoxicated or high on opioids.<\/p>\n He suggested that the infamous \u2018red\u2019 opioid may have fueled the actions of the youth.<\/p>\n \u201cWhy are some people, whether they were drunk or high on those red or blue or whatever you call them, so mad that they felt the need to destroy what we all share as a people? And you, the party leaders, feel scared to call them to order. It is not nice; it is very disgraceful,\u201d he condemned.<\/p>\n He issued an ultimatum to the leaders of the party to call their members to order or risk incurring the wrath of the Mampong Traditional Council.<\/p>\n \u201cAdvise those in the NDC who put up the despicable act. They have until tomorrow afternoon\u2026 If not, we shall shake things up for them to know that we wield the power and the entire jurisdiction,\u201d Daasebre Osei Bonsu fumed.<\/p>\n He noted the tolerant and welcoming nature of Ashantis to diversity, stating that Ashanti remains the only area in Ghana where other tribes are allowed to install their own chiefs.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause of my work at the university, I have traveled a lot. There is no place you mention that I don\u2019t know of. But our place is the only place where you find Sarkin Zongo, Ewe Chiefs, and whatnot\u2026 You are all Mampong people. We respect and treat everyone as equal, so why are some people trying to cause division among us?\u201d he questioned.<\/p>\n The reaction by Mamponghene is in response to the actions of some NDC youth who have been campaigning against the possible nomination of an Ashanti by President John Dramani Mahama for the MCE position in the area.<\/p>\n Last week, NDC youth in Asante Mampong Constituency protested the rumored nomination of Esther Dwomoh as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
