{"id":311758,"date":"2025-03-18T16:36:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T16:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2025\/03\/18\/i-dont-regret-abstaining-from-e-levy-vote-adwoa-safo\/"},"modified":"2025-03-18T16:36:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T16:36:00","slug":"i-dont-regret-abstaining-from-e-levy-vote-adwoa-safo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2025\/03\/18\/i-dont-regret-abstaining-from-e-levy-vote-adwoa-safo\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;I don\u2019t regret abstaining from E-Levy vote&#8217; &#8211; Adwoa Safo"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/10-2.jpg\" \/><br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has broken her silence on what she says was her decision to abstain from voting on the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accordig to the former lawmaker, she has no regrets about her choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, the former Gender Minister explained that her decision was based on her conviction that the E-Levy would not benefit Ghana and would instead impose hardships on citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI made that principled decision,\u201d she said on Tuesday, March 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adwoa Safo revealed that her decision was heavily influenced by consultations with her constituents, particularly church members in the Dome Kwabenya area, who expressed concerns about the negative impact the levy would have on their livelihoods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She described being torn between her loyalty to her political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and her commitment to the people she represented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former MP stressed that her decision was principled and rooted in her desire to prioritize the interests of her constituents.
