Social media, particularly X, has been flooded with posts about the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) in anticipation of the 2025 budget reading by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

Netizens are eagerly awaiting the announcement regarding the potential cancellation of the controversial E-Levy, which was introduced by the previous New Patriotic Party government. <\/p>\n

The tax has been widely criticised by politicians and experts alike, who have described it as a burdensome nuisance for the citizens.<\/p>\n

In addition to the E-Levy, netizens are also anticipating the cancellation of the Betting Tax, COVID-19 Levy, and other similar levies. <\/p>\n

During its 2024 campaign, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) pledged to scrap these taxes upon assuming power, aiming to provide relief to Ghanaians burdened by these financial impositions.<\/p>\n

However, many experts, including former Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, have cautioned that cancelling these taxes could have severe consequences on the economy. <\/p>\n

Nkrumah, for instance, warned that such a decision could result in a loss of GH\u00a222 billion for the nation.<\/p>\n
