The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has criticised the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin describing his character especially during the vetting as “a bull in a China shop.” <\/p>\n He argued that Afenyo-Markin’s approach is driven by a desire to make his minority group visible rather than addressing issues of national concern.<\/p>\n In a video shared on X by TV3 on January 4, 2025, he said, \u201cHe is like a bull in a China shop. He swings at everything and anything with the hope that he will land something good. I was not surprised at all by his approach when he finally took over as minority leader.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHis approach on the floor and at the appointments committee. I thought it was a strategy in line with his character to make his group, which can easily be ignored because of their number, be noticed, counted, and matter. It didn’t matter if the issues he was raising were relevant to the majority of Ghanaians. What was important was that he was occupying the media space. They were being noticed, heard, and their presence to some extent felt,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Alhassan Suhuyini further said that the leadership style and approach of Alexander Afenyo-Markin is chaotic and overly aggressive.<\/p>\n According to Suhuyini, the Minority Leader’s tactics often introduce “needless red herrings” to buy time for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when under pressure in Parliament.<\/p>\n \u201cHe is somebody, like I said in that prediction, who, when the NPP in Parliament over the years have their backs against the wall, is able to introduce sometimes very needless red herrings and hold the ground until the NPP is able to organize itself to determine a way forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cFor a minority group that is so small, the only way to be noticed is to swing in all directions and at everything in anticipation that at least you land something, you will hit something. That is the character and nature of Afenyo-Markin,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Suhuyini suggested that while this strategy initially helped the Minority gain attention, it has now become excessive and counterproductive. “They are talking too much outside instead of talking to each other. It is beginning to look very nasty and messy.
