{"id":276768,"date":"2025-01-14T08:23:01","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T08:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2025\/01\/14\/ill-reduce-inflation-to-8-ato-forson\/"},"modified":"2025-01-14T08:23:01","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T08:23:01","slug":"ill-reduce-inflation-to-8-ato-forson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2025\/01\/14\/ill-reduce-inflation-to-8-ato-forson\/","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019ll Reduce Inflation to 8% \u2013 Ato Forson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Dr Cassiel Ato Forson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finance Minister-Designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has pledged to reduce the country\u2019s inflation rate from 23.4% to 8% within a target band of plus or minus two.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during his vetting in Parliament, Dr. Forson emphasised that achieving this goal requires a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the shortest possible time, we will reduce inflation to 8% through a strong, front-loaded fiscal consolidation agenda that focuses on expenditure-based measures,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Forson explained that this approach would enable the Bank of Ghana to conserve reserves and intervene in the foreign exchange market when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure the long-term stability of the Ghana Cedi, he outlined plans to establish a Ghana Gold Board to use the country\u2019s gold reserves for foreign exchange.<\/p>\n<p>He also stressed the importance of revitalizing the palm and cocoa industries, adding that discussions with the World Bank are underway to support these initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Forson further underscored the need to address the hydrocarbons sector, pointing out that no new oil fields have been developed in the last eight years despite the country\u2019s oil resources.<\/p>\n<p>He called for urgent action to generate more foreign exchange from this sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur priority is to ensure a stable Cedi, lower inflation, and create jobs.
