Following the disclosure by the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu constituency, John Jinapor, that Ghana only has five hours’ worth of fuel stock for power generation, the Institute for Energy Security (IES) has weighed in on the controversy.<\/p>\n According to the Executive Director of IES, Nana Amoasi VII, a power crisis, popularly known as dumsor, is looming due to systemic inefficiencies and poor planning by the previous government.<\/p>\n He called on President John Dramani Mahama and his government to begin work on the energy sector as soon as possible to prevent power outages in the coming days.<\/p>\n He further stated that the country does not have any backup or sufficient stock of liquid fuel to address the situation.<\/p>\n Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Nana Amoasi VII said, \u201cAs observers of the space, we were well aware that we had a very fragile power sector due to systemic inefficiencies, including poor planning.”<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, we were expecting that as part of the transition arrangement, some form of procurement or lifting would have been done to ensure that there is no gap left within the space, but our checks indicate that we don\u2019t have enough liquid fuel to provide us with the reliability and assurance that we won\u2019t experience any disruptions in power supply,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, we appeal to those in charge today to get back to work and begin addressing the issue as soon as possible.
