Okyere Baafi spreads Christmas joy with free shopping for residents

Hundreds of residents, including persons with disabilities and senior citizens, in the New Juaben South Municipality recently enjoyed a festive treat ahead of the Christmas season, thanks to the annual ‘Christmas Shop For Free Initiative’ organised by the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Micheal Okyere Baafi.

The initiative is a flagship social program designed to bring relief to senior citizens aged 65 and above, as well as persons with disabilities, by allowing them to choose food supplies and household items of their choice completely free of charge.

The 2025 edition, held at the Betom Methodist AstroTurf on Saturday, December 13, 2025, saw residents walk home with bags of rice, live birds, meat, cooking oil, vegetables, tubers, toiletries, and other provisions.

Beneficiaries also received free health screenings and cosmetology services, including hairdressing, manicures, and pedicures, adding an extra touch of care and celebration.

Speaking to the media after the event, the former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry expressed gratitude to his constituents for their continued support and extended festive wishes.

“I had the privilege of hosting another edition of the 2025 Christmas Shop For Free initiative here at the Methodist AstroTurf in Betom, Koforidua. This is something I have been doing since I became the MP for Koforidua, in support of our elderly residents in New Juaben South Constituency,” Mr. Okyere Baafi said.

“This year, hundreds of senior citizens aged 65 and above received essential food items and household supplies free of charge, bringing dignity, relief, and festive cheer to many homes. Beyond the shopping experience, beneficiaries also enjoyed free health screenings and cosmetology services, making it a truly wholesome day of care and celebration.”

He added: “As MP for New Juaben South, I remain committed to ensuring no one is left behind, especially during the festive season. I am deeply grateful to our team, volunteers, sponsors, and partners who made this initiative a success. I thank everyone for making this day truly memorable, and I pray that the joy of Christmas fills every home and heart.”
