Police intensify patrols ahead of new year celebrations

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of comprehensive security arrangements nationwide ahead of New Year activities on Wednesday, December 31.

In a press briefing, Staff Officer PAD, DSP Richard Mensah, said officers have been strategically deployed across communities, major towns, entertainment centres, and key highways to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the celebrations.

He added that patrols have been intensified, with traffic officers stationed at major intersections to manage vehicular movement and ensure smooth traffic flow. Special security measures have also been put in place at churches, event grounds, and other locations expected to attract large crowds for Watch Night services and New Year events.

DSP Mensah urged religious and community leaders to conduct their activities responsibly and avoid creating fear or panic.

“We would also like to remind religious leaders and community leaders to conduct their activities to avoid creating fear and panic,” he said.

The Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with officers on duty, remain vigilant, and look out for neighbours, especially those away from home during the festivities. Suspicious activity should be reported immediately via emergency numbers 0302773906, 18555, 191, or 112.
