Raids on drug dens to be sustained nationwide

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has assured the public that its recent raids on drug dens across the country will be sustained as part of efforts to curb illicit drug activities.

The assurance follows intelligence-led operations conducted in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions, where NACOC dismantled several drug dens under a festive-season crackdown code-named “Operation White Ember.”

The coordinated raids targeted known drug hotspots, including Mamfe and Tutu in the Eastern Region, as well as Madina Redco Flats, Zongo Junction and the railway slums around Airport City in the Greater Accra Region. In all, 72 suspects were arrested during the operations.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, December 28, the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations of NACOC, Francis Opoku Amoah, said the Commission was determined to intensify the fight against illicit drugs.

“Let me assure the general public that it is not going to be a one-off thing [raids]. It is something that we will continue to do, whatever we say that we’re going to do with the help of God, with our professional training, guidance, support and leadership of our current management, I’m very sure that we will see to the end of everything that we say we’re going to do,” he said.

Mr Amoah urged members of the public to support the Commission by reporting suspected drug dens in their communities.

“Say something once you see some of these activities in your locality, we will investigate and take action,” he appealed.

He added that NACOC would continue to collaborate with relevant state agencies to crack down on illicit drugs, particularly those trafficked through the country’s coastal areas.
