New Abirem (E/R) , Dec. 18, GNA – The Minerals Commission in Koforidua has commended Zijin Golden Ridge Limited for adhering to high standards of sustainable and responsible mining, urging continued engagement with host communities for peaceful coexistence.

Ms. Regina Abbey, Principal Inspector of the Commission, said at the company’s End of Year Stakeholder Dinner in New Abirem.

“When we learnt that Zijin was going to take over the Akyem mine, we were a bit skeptical. Now we realize that Zijin’s operations are entirely different,”she stated.

Adding: “We are hoping that Zijin will continue to mine sustainably, taking into consideration the health and safety of the workers, and then also protecting the general public.”

The event brought together chiefs, regulators, media, and community members.

Zijin Golden Ridge, a subsidiary of Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd., took over the Akyem Gold Mine in April 2025.

The company plans to raise mining output from 27 million tonnes to 37 million tonnes in 2026 and 53 million tonnes in 2028.
