Accra, Dec. 18, GNA – Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, says culture, creativity and positive energy are essential in fostering unity and strengthening Ghana’s national identity.
She said creativity allowed familiar stories, including biblical narratives, to be reimagined in engaging ways that promoted reflection, humour and deeper understanding while remaining rooted in tradition.
Madam Gomashie made the remarks at the Ministry’s annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, held as part of its Christmas activities.
She said the service, a cherished annual tradition, provided an opportunity for reflection, celebration and unity as Christians prepared for Christmas, adding that the theme for this years’ service, “Light of the World: A cultural and creative Christmas experience,” aligned strongly with the Ministry’s mandate.
Madam Gomashie said Christmas was both a historical and symbolic occasion that promoted hope, compassion and redemption, forming an important aspect of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
She noted that culture and creativity were powerful forces that illuminated Ghana’s identity, enhanced its global image and contributed significantly to economic growth.
The Minister commended individuals and creative teams for ensuring the success of the event, describing the production as emotionally powerful and a compelling showcase of Ghana’s creative talent.
She also praised the Executive Director of the National Theatre, Mr Henry Herbert Malm, for leadership that had revitalised the institution.
She encouraged participants to embrace positivity, learn from the past and move forward with purpose.
The event featured performances by the Lapaz Community Choir, the Holy Family Choir of Mataheko, soloists Josephine Boso and Kokui Serlormey, Rev. Antonio of the Centre for National Culture, and drama and dance presentations by the National Theatre’s resident group.
