We’ve lost a dedicated public servant – Hackman Owusu-Agyemang on Omane Boamah

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, has paid a glowing tribute to former Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, describing him as a brilliant, dedicated and sincere public servant whose death is a great loss to the nation.

Mr. Owusu-Agyemang made the remarks while commiserating with the bereaved family and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, December 13.

Reflecting on his personal relationship with Dr. Omane Boamah, the veteran politician said he knew him to be a highly focused and committed young man who applied himself fully to every responsibility he undertook.

“I knew him to be a very brilliant young man, very dedicated, committed, and focused on everything that he did at that time,” he said.

He acknowledged that political differences later placed them on opposing sides but stressed that such divisions are a natural part of life and should not overshadow the qualities and contributions of the late minister.

“Unfortunately, we split. We went one side and he went the other side. But that is life,” Mr. Owusu-Agyemang stated, adding that Ghana had lost a devoted and sincere individual who could have contributed even more to national development.

Mr. Owusu-Agyemang also used the occasion to call for national unity, emphasising the need for political tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Ghanaians regardless of party affiliation.

“We are one people in this country, and we need to work together and co-exist so that there’ll be no problem within,” he said.

His comments came against the backdrop of disrupted funeral rites for Dr. Omane Boamah at Jackson Park in Koforidua, where a heavy downpour and strong winds forced organizers to abruptly suspend proceedings to ensure the safety of mourners.

Dr. Omane Boamah, who previously served as Defence Minister and as Director of Elections and Information Technology of the NDC, died on August 6, 2025, in a tragic military helicopter crash involving a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter. The accident claimed the lives of all eight people on board, including other prominent public officials and military personnel.

The late minister has since been remembered across the political divide for his service, dedication and commitment to Ghana’s democratic development.
