Family demands Justice, protection for teacher

The family of Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS), has called for justice after he was ambushed and brutally assaulted by eight students, including some former students of the school.

The incident occurred on October 5, 2025, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., when Quayson was returning home from town. According to the family, the attackers pounced on him when he stopped near his house to urinate. Hearing the commotion, relatives rushed outside, but the students fled the scene.

It remains unclear what may have provoked the attack, but reliable information available to Citi News indicates that the teacher’s only “offence” was his strict discipline on campus and his vigilance during the recent WASSCE examinations.

The assault was reported to the Kade Police, leading to the arrest of one student after a video of the attack went viral on social media. The suspect has since been granted bail, a development that has heightened concerns among teachers in the Kwaebibirem Municipality.

The Quayson family has urged the government, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Police Service to institute firm measures to protect teachers as violent attacks on educators continue to escalate.

Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, December 9, the victim’s younger sister, Esther Quayson, described the incident as disturbing and a reflection of growing lawlessness in the school.

“This issue is too appalling. In this same school, before the WASSCE, a student pulled a cutlass on a teacher, and the matter was swept under the carpet. It is becoming too much in our district. The Ghana Police Service should take up the issue, we beg them. Students are becoming notorious, especially in Kade Senior High Technical School,” she lamented.

The family insists that justice must be served to deter future attacks and restore safety for teachers in the municipality.
