Presidency didn’t ‘orchestrate’ petitions against Special Prosecutor, EC boss

Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed allegations that petitions seeking the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa were fabricated by the presidency.

The statements come after ten separate petitions were submitted by private citizens to the Office of the President, calling for the removal of the Special Prosecutor, the EC Chair, and her two deputies, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey. The petitions cite alleged misconduct, including incompetence, abuse of office, and concerns over electoral management.

Reports had suggested that the petitions were orchestrated from within the presidency. Kwakye Ofosu rejected these claims outright.

Speaking on Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Monday, 1 December 2025, the Minister challenged critics to produce evidence of any government involvement.

“The critics would have to show evidence of the cooking and the eating [fabrication], wouldn’t they?” he said.

Kwakye Ofosu emphasised that the government has no connection with the petitioners and that the submissions were independent, adding that any committee set up to investigate the petitions would operate autonomously.

“There’s no basis for manipulation, there’s no room for manoeuvring or any form of manipulation from the executive whatsoever. The committee will be formed by the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and not the President [John Dramani Mahama],” he said.

He confirmed that all petitions have been forwarded to the Chief Justice, who will determine the next steps in line with constitutional processes.
