Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, popularly known as Gyankee, is the first daughter of Ghana’s former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Unlike many presidential children who maintain a distant relationship with public service, Gyankroma has taken on a prominent role in shaping Ghana’s creative and cultural landscape.
Appointed in 2017 as the Director of the Creative Arts Council, Gyankroma has been instrumental in championing the growth and formalization of Ghana’s creative industry. Under her leadership, the council has supported initiatives in music, film, fashion, and visual arts, aiming to create sustainable opportunities for young creatives across the country. Her vision includes not only showcasing Ghanaian talent globally but also building the infrastructure needed to support local artists.
Prior to her appointment, Gyankroma spent much of her life abroad, studying and working in the United Kingdom. She later returned to Ghana with a passion for cultural development and a commitment to national service. With a strong background in the arts and event coordination, she has organized exhibitions and cultural programs that highlight the richness of Ghanaian heritage.
Though she holds a public position, Gyankroma is known for her professionalism and discretion. She avoids political controversy and focuses on using her platform to empower youth, promote creative expression, and contribute to Ghana’s socio-economic development through the arts.
As the first born of President Akufo-Addo, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo is setting an example of how members of a presidential family can play meaningful roles in nation-building without seeking political office.
