A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has reacted to the former Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, over his call to party delegates to elect a leader who will not insult world figures at the UN.

In a TikTok video sighted by GhanaWeb on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the politician, in a media interview, stated that he would not retaliate against what he described as insults directed at his personality.

According to him, Atta Akyea had previously denigrated former President Akufo-Addo in his presence, and so he is not surprised at the insults now directed at him.

‘Don’t elect a leader that will embarrass Ghana at the UN’ – Atta Akyea cautions NPP delegates

“He [Atta Akyea] insulted Akufo-Addo to me at Heathrow Airport that he wasn’t fit to be president but then Akufo-Addo went on to win. I was surprised he even took a ministerial appointment from him despite his insults.

“If he insults me, I’m nobody and I won’t respond because he used the same filthy words to describe Akufo-Addo to me. If he has conscience, he should remember the things he told me at Heathrow Airport. I never mentioned those things to Akufo-Addo because if I had, he wouldn’t have made him a minister,” Agyapong disclosed.

The former Assin Central lawmaker stated that he remains focused on his campaign and goals, adding that the insults directed at him are intended to distract his team.

Agyapong added that the insults directed at him are part of a deliberate plot to provoke him into retaliation, which would then be used against him to create disaffection.

“I’m not responding to anybody but just staying focused. This is a distraction because they have no message. My silence has exposed their inefficiencies. They wanted me to respond to their insults so they use it against me. I have a vision and dream for Ghana and if I’m given the opportunity, the speed at which I will develop the country, you have no idea,” he added.

NPP Primaries: Bawumia stretches lead, projected to win 15 out of 16 regions in new poll

Atta Akyea, a former Minister of Works and Housing, urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exercise discretion in choosing a flagbearer who will represent Ghana honorably on the international stage.

Speaking to party supporters in Mpraeso in the Eastern Region, he stated, “If we elect this man and he is addressing world leaders at the United Nations, he will insult them, and Ghanaians will wonder why he is using such intemperate language. Have you heard Dr Bawumia use intemperate language?”
