The Ministry of Health has unveiled plans to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools in addressing pressing healthcare challenges in Ghana, including the rise of chronic diseases and increasing maternal mortality.
According to the ministry, these longstanding healthcare issues require innovative solutions, and AI presents a transformative approach to improve service delivery.
Speaking at the Future of Digital Countries (FDC) Summit media launch in Accra on Wednesday, November 26, Dr Wisdom Atiwoto, Director of Research, Statistics, and Information Management at the Ministry of Health, explained that ongoing research has helped identify key health challenges that AI can effectively address.
“We are leveraging AI to address the challenges we face. The way the population accesses healthcare and how services are delivered is rapidly changing. The ministry is using digital health technology to manage the increasing number of chronic diseases and other critical health issues,” he said.
Dzifa Gunu, CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, called on investors to collaborate with Ghana in its digital initiatives, emphasising the potential to address pressing healthcare and developmental issues across Africa.
“…We are seeking continued partnership and support to expand this work,” she added.
