Abedi Pele’s appointment to World Cup Planning Committee hailed

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has praised the inclusion of football legend Abedi Ayew Pele on Ghana’s World Cup Planning Committee, describing it as a major boost to the country’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking at the Committee’s launch on Wednesday, Debrah highlighted Pele’s international experience as a key asset.

“If for nothing at all, he has played on the international platform. He has the experience to share with us on how best we can present our country on the global stage,” Debrah said.

The Chief of Staff also urged host nation embassies, particularly the United States, to support as many Ghanaian fans as possible to attend the tournament. He emphasised that effective planning requires both practical action and national unity.

Debrah described Pele’s presence on the Committee as critical for guiding Ghana’s preparations, ensuring that the Black Stars are represented with professionalism and pride. Next year’s World Cup will be Ghana’s fifth appearance in the competition.
