Yagbonwura accepts customary items to purify Gbiniyiri over deadly clash

The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has accepted the plea and customary items presented to purify the Gbiniyiri land following a recent communal clash between the Gonjas and the Brifos over a disputed parcel of land.

The confrontation, which occurred months ago, resulted in multiple deaths, destruction of properties, and the displacement of several residents, some of whom fled to neighbouring regions and countries for safety.

Leading the delegation, the Member of Parliament for Bole/Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Sulemana Yusif, described the gesture as a major milestone toward restoring peace and healing relations between the two communities.
Chairman of the Lobi-Brifo Council of Elders, Thomas Bebe Seno, expressed profound gratitude to the Overlord for accepting the items required for the cleansing of the land.
He affirmed that the Lobi-Brifo people do not lay claim to the land in question, and fully acknowledge the authority of the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and his subjects over the area.

“We thank you for accepting what we have brought to pacify the land so that it becomes a peaceful place for all of us to live on. Without pacification, development and peace cannot come. These items are meant for the ancestors and the land because the land cannot speak for itself,” he said.
