One of the residents is seen pouring refuse into the flowing water during the rain
A disturbing video has surfaced online showing some residents of Atwima-Nwabiagya North in the Ashanti Region indiscriminately dumping refuse into running water during heavy rainfall.
The footage, which was shared on the X app, captured individuals pouring waste directly into the floodwaters as the rain fell.
The act has sparked outrage among some social media users, many of whom expressed concerns about the environmental and health implications of such practices.
The individual recording the video explained that the flowing water being polluted was the same source later refined and supplied to the community.
He lamented that despite this, residents continued to pour garbage into it whenever it rains.
In the video, he was heard saying: “This is the water that flows to Nwabidam to be refined and supplied to us. It’s raining, and people are coming from their homes to pour refuse into the flowing water. The water is filled with so much dirt.
“This is Atwima-Nwabiagya North, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) here is Hon Mba Zakaria. We plead with you to address this behaviour and put in appropriate measures.”
According to some other commentators, this behaviour pollutes water bodies and also worsens flooding and sanitation challenges in the community.
