Police Council recommends two-year extension for IGP Yohuno

Citi News has gathered that the Police Council has recommended a two-year extension for Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

The proposed extension will allow IGP Yohuno to continue leading the Ghana Police Service as the institution deepens ongoing reforms and strengthens national security operations.

Sources indicate the move aims to ensure continuity in security management and sustain the progress made under his leadership.

Appointed earlier this year, IGP Yohuno has been credited with enhancing police visibility, improving crime response strategies, and advancing community-policing initiatives nationwide. He was originally expected to retire in December 2025.

According to Citi News sources, the extension is likely to receive approval from President John Dramani Mahama.

If confirmed, IGP Yohuno will continue overseeing key security programmes, modernisation efforts, and personnel development within the service.
