Many 2012–2016 road projects no longer viable — Agbodza

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, says several road projects initiated between 2012 and 2016 can no longer be considered viable due to changes in scope and pricing over the years.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, November 24, Mr. Agbodza explained that he inherited a number of projects dating as far back as 2016, many of which require a complete review.

Mr. Agbodza said, “I came to meet road projects that started in 2016, so it’s a principle, I said that any projects that were started from 2012, 2016 cannot be considered a viable project any longer. Because the scope would have changed, the prices would have changed.”

He added that the ministry has already begun rationalising such projects.

“So, we need to rationalise, and jetison all of these things for repackaging or re-assessment. And so, we have done some reassessment, and it’s all the way up to December 31, 2024,” he said.

Mr. Agbodza said the reassessment process is aimed at ensuring value for money and aligning old projects with current economic and infrastructural demands.
