Ghana has climbed to 14th place among countries sending international students to the United States, up from 18th in 2024, according to new data released by the U.S. Embassy.
The figures, published on the Embassy’s Facebook page on Tuesday, November 25, show that 40% of Ghanaian students in the U.S. are undergraduates, while 33% are enrolled in graduate programmes.
The Embassy also reported that Ghana accounted for 36% of the overall growth in international student numbers to the U.S. between 2024 and 2025. Ghanaian students contributed an estimated $306 million to the U.S. economy during the same period.
Data on Ghanaian international student numbers show a consistent rise over the past five years:
2020: 4,221
2021: 4,229
2022: 4,916
2023: 6,468
2024: 9,394
2025: 12,825
The Embassy urged students to strictly adhere to U.S. visa regulations, stressing that compliance is essential to maintaining access to educational opportunities abroad.
