Peace is gradually returning to Kwahu following the enforcement of a ruling by the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, which reinstated Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II to the Esono Gyimah Mampong Agyei Palace at Abene.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II has assured the indigenes of Kwahu that he will foster unity and prioritise peace and development in the traditional area.
The palace had been unlawfully seized since late 2024 by armed men and occupied by Baffuor Akoto Osei, who was paraded as Kwahuhene from January 2025 after an alleged destoolment of the substantive chief.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, born Eugene Kwasi Asante Boadi, is a chartered accountant who was lawfully nominated, selected, and enstooled as Kwahuhene on June 5, 2017, following the death of Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II on September 9, 2014. His name was duly entered into the National Register of Chiefs and gazetted on September 28, 2017.
Despite his recognition and active performance of his duties, some kingmakers allegedly attempted to destool him, claiming he had brought disrepute to the stool after resigning as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) amid allegations of financial impropriety.
Supported by certain divisional chiefs and “invisible forces,” Baffuor Akoto Osei was purportedly enstooled under the stool name Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III in January 2025 and occupied Abene Palace with heavily armed men.
However, some Kwahu chiefs and elders disagreed with the destoolment. Nana Kwaku Boateng, the Etena/Bretuo Abusuapanyin, argued that the Chieftaincy Act (2008), Act 759, requires a lawful process for removing a chief, which was allegedly violated.
On May 5, 2025, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II filed a motion seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain Baffuor Akoto Osei and six others from interfering in his functions as Omanhene of Kwahu.
The Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs granted the injunction, restraining the respondents — including divisional chiefs and palace officials — from interfering with Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, pending the final determination of the substantive case. The ruling was delivered on June 24, 2025, at a sitting in Koforidua.
The Committee also barred the respondents from recognising or presenting Baffuor Akoto Osei as Kwahuhene or performing any function at Abene Palace. On November 17, 2025, the police enforced the ruling, restoring Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II to the palace.
Since his reinstatement, relative calm has returned to the Kwahu Traditional Area. Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II is expected to resume his customary functions and continue efforts to attract investment for local development.
Since his installation, he has demonstrated visionary and peaceful leadership, serving as President of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Vice President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, and as a member of the Judicial and Research Committees of the National House of Chiefs. He has also held leadership roles at ADB, Abosso Goldfields, and KPMG.
