Ofori-Atta running away from accountability -Inusah Fuseini

Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has accused former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta of avoiding accountability as efforts to extradite him from the United States continue.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been seeking to bring Mr. Ofori-Atta back to Ghana to face prosecution, but the former minister has cited medical treatment abroad as the reason for his absence.

Speaking during a Q&A session on X Space on Sunday, November 23, Mr. Fuseini challenged Mr Ofori-Atta to return home if he maintains his innocence.

“Ofori-Atta is running away from accountability. He’s running away from the law. If he has nothing to hide, what prevents him from coming to Ghana? Ofori-Atta has brought this upon himself,” he said.

He rejected claims that the OSP should have prevented the former minister from travelling out of the country.

“On what conduct was the OSP going to prevent Ken Ofori-Atta from travelling after he had sought permission from the then Chief of Staff [Frema Osei-Opare] to seek medical attention when he was to assist in the investigation and not under investigation? Why blame the OSP for not completing its mandate?” he asked.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that eight individuals—including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta—are to be arraigned on Monday, November 24, over their alleged involvement in the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) revenue assurance contracts.

The OSP has filed 78 charges against Mr. Ofori-Atta and the seven others in connection with the controversial agreements between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited
