‘We’ve apologised to each other’ – Prof Gyampo, Dr Domfeh smoke peace pipe

Prof Gyampo threatened legal action against Dr Domfeh over ‘sleeping with under-age girl’ claim Prof Gyampo threatened legal action against Dr Domfeh over ‘sleeping with under-age girl’ claim

Renowned political science lecturer Prof Ransford Gyampo and his colleague, senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr George Domfeh, have announced their reconciliation following their ugly fight on national television.

Dr Domfeh first announced the reconciliation in a post shared on Facebook on Wednesday, November 20, 2025.

He indicated that they decided to bury the hatchet after they both admitted fault in a longer conversation.

“Professor Gyampo acknowledged that he regrets his commentary against my person, which was distasteful and defamatory, especially considering our longstanding collegial relationship. I, in turn, admitted that I went so hard with my comments about his person in response to his position on my commentary; we have sincerely apologised to each other.

“We have mutually agreed to put this episode behind us and move forward with renewed respect for each other. As public intellectuals, we remain committed to engaging in serious national discourse without allowing disagreements to degenerate into personal animosity,” he wrote.

Prof Gyampo responded to Dr Domfeh’s post in less than five minutes, confirming the reconciliation.

He refuted the allegation of defamation made by Domfeh, saying, “You know I didn’t defame or attack anybody, but Dr Domfeh, apology accepted. Please, please, please, let’s let go. He’s still my brother.”

About the incident:

The two lecturers at the University of Ghana came under heavy criticism after a video of them trading insults went viral on social media.

In the video circulating on November 15, 2025, a lecturer at the Political Science Department and CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, is seen in a heated altercation with Dr George Domfeh, also a senior lecturer at UG.

In the less-than-one-minute footage, the two lecturers, who appeared on TV3’s The Key Points show, were seen exchanging insults after their discussion turned personal.

Dr Domfeh, while making his submission, was heard alleging that Prof Gyampo is politically biased, accusing him of being self-centred during his tenure as UG-UTAG president.

“Nobody is more political than Prof Gyampo. Everything about you is political. When you were UTAG president, look at what you did… Shame on you,” he said.

Prof Gyampo, who appeared visibly upset, fired back and accused Dr Domfeh of being unfit as an academic.

“I am political about what?… You are not an academic. Shame on you. What you are doing is shameful,” Gyampo retorted.

Another video circulating on Facebook shows the two lecturers in a near-fistfight, with Dr Domfeh heard making further allegations against Prof Gyampo, including claims about inappropriate conduct with students. These allegations remain unverified and were made during the altercation.

“You are a fool. You are a professor who sleeps with children,” Domfeh alleged.

After the incident, Gyampo, through his lawyers, demanded an apology and retraction over the claim that he was sleeping with underage girls.

Dr Domfeh also claimed that the media house where the incident happened, TV3, colluded with Prof Gyampo to make him look bad.

He alleged that the video of the incident was edited to make him look like an aggressor and not Prof Gyampo.
